Vishay Introduces Reflective Light Sensor to Save Space, Improve Performance and Reliability

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2022-07-12, Vishay Huntington Electric Inc.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that its Optoelectronics Division has introduced the VCNT2025X01, a new AEC-Q101 qualified reflective light sensor for automotive, smart home, industrial and office equipment. Vishay Semiconductors VCNT2025X01 packs an IR emitter, silicon phototransistor detector, and sunlight blocking filter in a small 2.5 mm x 2.0 mm x 0.6 mm surface mount package, which is thinner than previous generation solutions, improving performance and increasing Current transfer ratio (CTR) and operating temperature.

The recently released device is compact, with the emission light source and detector located on the same plane. The analog output signal produced by the sensor phototransistor depends on the amount of light reflected by the sensor detected object from the IR LED. A daylight blocking filter built into the sensor significantly suppresses unwanted ambient light, thereby improving the signal-to-noise ratio. The device's robust FAM package reduces crosstalk, and the side pads that are easy to absorb solder facilitate optical inspection of solder joints.

With a thickness of 0.6 mm, which is 0.2 mm lower than the previous generation device, the VCNT2025X01 is a space-saving solution for optical switches in automotive electronic systems, office equipment and home appliances, optical coding for industrial automation systems, and paper for printers and copiers detection. In these application scenarios, the device can operate up to +110 °C, compared to +80 °C for a close competitor.

Sensor detection distance of 0.3 mm to 4.5 mm, emitter wavelength 940 nm, typical output current of 6.6 mA, typical current transfer ratio of 33 % under test conditions, 24 % higher than previous generation solutions twenty three %. The device has a Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) of 3 and can be reflow soldered in accordance with J-STD-020. The device is RoHS and Vishay Green compliant and halogen free.
