The new thick film shunt resistor supports higher power

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2021-12-11, Rohm Semiconductor

ROHM has developed the LTR100L, a thick film shunt resistor optimized for industrial and consumer applications. Commonly used to detect current in battery protection and motor drive circuits, shunt resistors require greater accuracy to improve reliability and ensure efficient operation.

In recent years, attention has been paid to energy saving in industrial and consumer fields, and efforts are being made to reduce power consumption during drive operation by using motor inverters. At the same time, as power applications continue to increase, protection circuits are becoming more and more important in these areas.

The company recently launched the GMR320 series of metal plate shunt resistors -- released in February 2021. These devices have higher guaranteed power ratings of up to 10W. The company has also been expanding its vast product lineup. Since April 2018, with these latest products, ROHM has expanded its lineup of thick film shunt resistors to support higher power regions. ROHM began production of the LTR50 series of low ohm thick film shunt resistors with a power rating of 2W.

In thick film shunt resistors, the optimized element structure provides first-class TCR(resistance temperature coefficient) characteristics. Therefore, temperature is not easy to affect them, so that the current detection of high precision, high reliability. In addition, the series achieves the industry's highest power rating of 4W in 3264 sizes (3.2mm x 6.4mm) / 1225 sizes (0.12" x 0.25") by modifying resistance materials and application terminal temperature derating. This makes them ideal for motor control and current detection in industrial and consumer applications that are moving towards higher power.

You can purchase samples with resistances of 10mOhm, 47mOhm, 91mOhm). In addition, a variety of design-friendly content and tools are provided, including application instructions.
