The new PPS family provides higher power ratings without compromising reliability

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2022-07-18, TDK Corporation

TDK Corporation introduced the high power density 7500w rated 1U high model of the TDK-lambda GENESYS+ series programmable power supplies. . The series benefits from DSP technology and the latest generation of components, including ferrite materials, achieving efficiencies of 91 - 92%. Less internal waste heat ensures higher power ratings without compromising reliability. Initially, 6 models will be available, capable of delivering 375A output from 0 to 20V to 5A output from 0 to 1500v. The output power of this product allows system configurators to bypass the need for parallel low-wattage power supplies, reducing rack or cabinet size

The first six voltage models are 0-20V/375A, 0-40V/188A, 0-100V/75A, 0-150V/50A, 0-600V/12.5A, 0-1500V/5A. The units can operate in constant current, constant voltage, or constant power limit mode, and also provide internal resistance simulation. The unit can be specified to accept three-phase 170 to 265VAC or wide-range 342 to 528VAC input with active power factor correction. The operating efficiency is as high as 92%.

The 7,500W power supply is targeted for automotive testing -- including electric and hybrid vehicles, general test or research, measurement, semiconductor manufacturing, battery manufacturing, and renewable energy。Ideal for zero-stack rack installation, this unit is 423mm wide, 486.5mm deep, and 43.6mm high (1U). Cooling is provided by variable speed fans that monitor ambient temperature and output load. The weight of the whole machine is less than 8.5kg, which is easy to carry.

All models in the family offer high-contrast, wide-viewing LCDS with user-controlled brightness and dimming features, as well as faster up-down programming response times, and user-adjustable voltage and current conversion rate control. Arbitrary waveform test profiles of up to 100 steps can be generated and stored in four storage units and activated by commands from communication ports or front panel controls.

Up to 12 units can be connected by connecting a data link cable between the units and paralleling the DC outputs. By detecting parallel data connections, commands and auxiliary units are automatically configured and their parameters are set accordingly. And for extra power, the 7500w power supply uses TDK-Lambda's advanced parallel system (patent pending), allowing multiple unit systems to achieve dynamic response and ripple and noise performance comparable to a single power supply.

The package includes software drivers, waveform generator and virtual front panel GUI. Safety features are standard on all series power supplies and provide safe/auto restart, last setting memory, and built-in protection features.Programming is consistent for the complete 1kW to 60kW range via either front panel control, remotely via LAN (LXI 1.5), USB 2.0, and RS232/485 communications, or utilizing isolated analog control and monitoring (0-5V, 0-10V) , which is the standard provided. Optional interfaces include a choice of EtherCAT or Modbus-TCP or GPIB (IEEE488.2).

The series also complies with IEC/EN 61203-3 conducted and radiated electromagnetic interference and EMC immunity. And the five-year warranty series has passed IEC/EN/UL 61010-1 safety certification, CE and UKCA marked low voltage, EMC and RoHS directives.
