Renesas Electronics offers a new group in its 32 bit RA series MCUS. The RA2E2 Group, based on the latest Arm Cortex-M23 core, offers a unique low-power combination, a set of high-quality peripherals for iot end-point applications, and space-saving package options, including a tiny 16-pin WLCSP device that is only 1.87mm x 1.84mm. The new 48MHz RA2E2 set facilitates fast design cycles and easy upgrades to other RA series devices.

The new device supports a very wide temperature range Ta = -40/+125C and is suitable for harsh iot operating environments. The suite supports the I3C bus interface and incorporates cost-saving peripheral features, including an on-chip oscillator with accuracy of +/-1%, a power-on reset and low-voltage detector, an EEPROM and a temperature sensor. These MCUS are designed to meet demanding iot end-point applications, including medical devices, wearables, appliances, and industrial automation. They offer what is claimed to be the lowest operating power consumption in the industry in their category, consuming only 81uA/MHz in active mode, with a software standby current of only 200nA and a quick wake up feature.

The GUI simplifies and speeds up the development process. It allows flexible use of legacy code and easy compatibility and scalability with other RA family devices. Designers using FSP also have access to Arm's extensive ecosystem, offering a wide range of tools to help speed time-to-market, as well as the company's extensive partner network. The series includes more than 160 parts that expand from 48MHz to 200MHz. The MCU offers industry-leading power specifications, a very wide range of communication options, and first-class security options, including Arm TrustZone technology. All RA devices are supported by Renesas's flexible software program, which contains efficient drivers and middleware to simplify communication and security implementation.

"We are seeing growing demand for 32-bit MCUS for low pin number iot end-point applications, and the RA2E2 Group has met that demand with the right features and performance," said Roger Wendelken, senior vice president, Iot and Infrastructure Business Unit. Student: Renesas electrons. "Our RA family now offers solutions with pins from 16 to 176 and performance from 48 to 200 MHz, all supported by our FSP, enabling quick and easy conversion of design IP between different devices."
