Texas Instruments DRV8705S-Q1 EVM evaluation module (EVM) is designed to evaluate DRV8705S-Q1. DRV8705S-Q1 is an integrated automotive class brushless DC motor driver. DRV8705S-Q1 is a highly integrated half bridge gate driver, which can drive high side and low side N-channel power MOSFET. It uses an integrated dual charge pump on the high side and a linear regulator on the low side to generate an appropriate grid drive voltage.

These motor drivers are highly integrated h bridge gate drivers, capable of driving high side and low side n-channel power mosfets. The integrated circuit uses the integrated charge to generate an appropriate gate drive voltage pump for the high side, and the linear regulator for the low side (the doubler is used for the drv810x - q1, DRV8705x-Q1 and DRV8706x-Q1, and the configurable doubler/tripler for DRV8714x-Q1 and DRV8718x-Q1). The equipment uses an intelligent gate drive architecture to reduce system cost and improve reliability. The gate drive optimizes the dead time to avoid passing conditions, provides control to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) through adjustable gate drive current, and protects leakage to the source and gate short conditions with VDS and vg monitors. Wide common mode shunt amplifiers provide inline current sensing for continuous measurement of motor current, even in the cycle window. Amplifiers can be used for low side or high side sensing, or configured if inline sensing is not required.

The motor driver provides a range of protection functions to ensure robust system operation. These include power supply and charging pump, over-voltage of VDS over-current and VGS gate and fault monitoring of external mosfet of over-voltage monitor, offline load opening and short circuit diagnosis, as well as internal thermal warning and shutdown protection. The EVM has an h bridge, which is composed of four n-channel mosfets. The drive bi-directional motor can reach 15-A RMS, 20-A peak current or eight n-channel mosfets can reach 30-A RMS and 40-A peak current in both directions.

EVM inputs analog power through a single power supply and digital power through USB cable, which can be customized for external supply. A negative 18v reverse battery protection circuit, together with a 20-A RMS rated PI filter, to clean the power input and protect the reverse polarity battery connection.
