You need to create today's smart solutions with the greatest possible power savings. Regardless of whether the energy source is energy harvested, battery / capacitor powered, or from the grid, power conversion must be as efficient as possible to save the available energy in the circuit.
For example, the TPS61291 is a boost converter with pin-selectable output voltage and integrated bypass mode. In bypass operation, the device provides a direct path from the input to the system and allows a low-power microcontroller (MCU), such as the MSP430, to be powered directly from a single 3V Li-MnO2 battery or a double alkaline battery. In bypass mode, the integrated feedback voltage divider network for boost mode operation is disconnected from the output, and quiescent current consumption is reduced to only 15nA (typical). In boost mode, the device has a minimum output current of 200mA when it supplies 3.3V VOUT from 1.8V VIN.
