Texas Instruments' TPS82085 is a 3A step-down converter MicroSiP module optimized for small size solutions and high efficiency. The power module integrates a synchronous buck converter and inductor to simplify the design, reduce external components and save PCB area. The small and compact solution is suitable for automatic assembly by standard surface mount equipment. In order to maximize the efficiency, the converter operates at a rated switching frequency of 2.4MHz in PWM mode and automatically enters power-saving mode at light load current. In power-down mode, the device typically operates with a quiescent current of 17µA. Using the DCS-Control topology, the device achieves excellent load transient performance and precise output voltage regulation. Supporting sequential configuration of EN and PG pins enables flexible system design. Integrated soft start reduces the inrush current required by the input power. Overheating protection and ic short circuit protection help provide a robust and reliable solution.
