Texas Instruments' TPS61021A provides power solutions for portable or smart devices powered by alkaline, nickel metal hydride, lithium manganese, or lithium ion batteries. It can output 3.3V and 1.5A from batteries as low as 1.8V. Capable of operating at 0.5V input voltage, enabling the device to extend battery run time.
The device operates at a switching frequency of 2MHz under heavy loads and enters energy-saving mode under light loads to maintain high efficiency over the entire load current range. Under light load conditions, the device consumes only 17µA quiescent current from VOUT. During shutdown, the load is completely disconnected from the input. In addition, it also provides 4.35V output overvoltage protection, output short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown protection.
Due to the small number of external components, the device offers a very small solution size. It allows the use of small inductors and output capacitors with a switching frequency of 2MHz.
It uses a 2mm × 2mm WSON package and is suitable for battery-powered IoT devices, game controls, thermostats, portable medical devices, and supercapacitor backup systems.
