TDK Corporation has expanded its Micronas embedded motor controller portfolio with the introduction of the first members of the new HVC 5x family of programmable SoC motor controllers for powering small stepping, BDC and BLDC motors in automotive and industrial applications. The new family offers an application-specific evolution of the popular HVC 4x device, which is planned to provide a "one IC fits all" motor control solution for stepping, BLDC and BDC motors.

The new HVC 5221D and HVC 5222C are targeted at a single motor type, allowing for lower cost and smaller size applications. With the first two products in the HVC 4x and HVC 5x series, the company is offering a growing portfolio of motor control solutions for intelligent actuators and is focusing on thermal systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. The HVC 5221D consists of four motor terminals, each with a peak current of 500mA, targeting stepper motors and DC motors in the expansion and water valves.

The HVC 5222C offers three motor terminals, making it ideal for brushless motors with raster shutters and small fans, with phase currents up to 1A. Both devices feature seven universal I/O ports and many automotive diagnostics and safety features in a small 24-pin QFN package. All HVC 5x controllers are pin-compatible for simpler design and scalability.
