Silicon Labs' Si88x2x dual digital isolator integrates mature digital isolator technology with on-chip isolated DC-DC converters. It can provide a stable output voltage of 3.3V or 5V with peak output power up to 5W through an external power switch.
These devices include a DC-DC controller with a user-adjustable frequency to minimize emissions, a safe soft-start feature, shutdown options and loop compensation. The topology of the Si88x2x modules enables them to sense the output voltage on the secondary side without the need for additional optocouplers and supporting circuitry to bias those optocouplers. This allows the DC-DC converter to operate with excellent line and load regulation, while reducing external components and increasing lifetime reliability.
The DC-DC converter is used in conjunction with an external transformer to provide up to 5W of isolated power through a 24V input power supply and 5V to the secondary side of the Si88xx2x and other circuits on the isolated side through external switches. supply. Compared with traditional isolation technologies, ultra-low-power digital isolation channels have significant data rate, propagation delay, size, and reliability advantages. Supports data rates up to 100Mbps, and the propagation delay of all devices is only 23ns (maximum).
Silicon Labs' Si886xx ISO-EVB evaluation kit is also available, demonstrating the digital isolation capabilities of the installed Si88621ED-IS and its DC-DC converter performance. Includes convenient test points to measure and observe time-varying currents and voltages to calculate relevant parameters such as efficiency and load / line regulation.
The company said that the AEC-Q100-compliant and RoHS-compliant Si88x2x devices are ideal for power supply, electric vehicle, industrial, and motor control applications.
