Signal and power isolation CAN transceiver integrates isolation dc-dc converter

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2023-02-15, Analog Devices Inc.

The ADM3053 is an Isolation Controller LAN (CAN) physical layer transceiver with an integrated isolation dc-to-dc converter. ADM3053 complies with ISO 11898. Using Analog Devices, Inc. 's iCoupler technology, the device combines a 2-channel isolator, a CAN transceiver, and Analog Devices' isoPower dc-to-dc converter into a single SOIC surface-mount package.

Schematic diagram

An on-chip oscillator outputs a wave that drives an internal transformer to provide isolated power. The unit is powered by a single 5 V power supply, enabling a fully isolated CAN solution. ADM3053 creates a fully isolated interface between the CAN protocol controller and the physical layer bus. It is capable of running at data rates of up to 1mbps.

The device has current limiting and thermal shutdown functions to prevent short circuit of the output. The part is fully specified in the industrial temperature range and comes in a 20-pin wide-body SOIC package. The ADM3053 includes isoPower technology, which uses high-frequency switching components to transmit power through transformers. Special care must be taken during the printed circuit board (PCB) layout process to meet emission standards.
