Samsung is sampling an 8TB data center SATA SSD with integrated LPDDR4
DRAM modules and a 2.5-inch SATA
interface at 6.0 Gigabits per second (Gbps) .
SSD uses 1xnm based 16Gb LPDDR4 DRAM.
SATA 3.3 compliant power disable (PWDIS) feature allows
power management in a single SSD unit to maximize energy efficiency. The
SSD uses 2.8W power for reading data and writing at 3.7W.
The SSD named PM883
continuously reads data at a speed of up to 550 Mbps and continuously writes data at a speed of up to 520 MB / s.
Random reads provide up to 98,000 IOPS, and random writes provide up to 28,000
IOPS.
For 3840GB drives, the drive's TBW (Total Bytes Written) rating is 5466TB, and for 7680GB drives, it is rated 10,932TB.
The 8TB SSD is now being trialled with multiple server manufacturers,
including two servers exhibited together at the Samsung booth. The drive will
have
the first form factor designed for dense 1U servers that are widely used in cloud data centers.
The upcoming Samsung 64-layer 8TB NF1 SSD can provide I / O at 0.5 PB per second.
The drive
measures 30.5mm x 110mm x 4.8mm and will improve
space utilization and expansion options for artificial intelligence, deep learning and other hyperscale data center server applications. Up to 36
Samsung NF1 SSDs can be installed on the front of a 1RU server, so that
the storage capacity of each RU is nearly six times that of a U.2 SSD.
Samsung is selling 64GB RDIMMs based on 16Gb.
Compared with
64GB LRDIMMs based on 8Gb, they support 2666 MT / s interface speed and reduce power consumption by over 20%.
Using a 16Gb monolithic chip
increases the maximum DIMM density to 256GB, making it suitable for memory-intensive applications
such as memory databases and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
