STMicroelectronic's STNRG011A digital power two-in-one controller is suitable for 90W to 300W power supplies with enhanced overload management to ensure accurate output voltage adjustment when overcurrent protection is activated.the STNRG011A integrates a power factor correction (PFC) controller, an LLC resonant half-bridge controller, an 800V starting circuit and a voltage monitoring engine. Targeted applications include power adapters, chargers, and TV and lamp power supplies.
The multimode PFC controller implements performance enhancements including input voltage feedforward, distortion optimizer, and frequency limiting. The digital voltage monitoring engine features an 8-bit processor core and dedicated peripherals, and digital algorithms are stored in internal ROM, ensuring power reliability and minimal bill of Materials (BoM) costs.
Detailed block diagram
Compared with the existing STNRG011, STNRG011A has a new overload management algorithm, which can improve the switching frequency when triggering overcurrent protection. In addition to keeping the output voltage adjusted, this feature also prevents unexpected power shutdowns.
Other product highlights include on-chip non-volatile memory for storing configuration parameters and calibration data, saving on external components, and the ability to customize controllers to meet application-specific requirements. There is also a 2-pin UART port on the chip for monitoring and communication, which simplifies testing and allows real-time monitoring and remote management. The chip has built-in PFC and half-bridge protection, and X capacitor discharge circuits comply with IEC 62368-1 standards, helping to minimize standby power consumption.
