Date de Parution: 2022-07-24, U-Blox America Inc.

U-blox has released the SARA-R500E, the first cellular module with embedded SIM chip (eSIM). The first release will provide out-of-the-box connectivity to North American LTE-M cellular networks. It provides LTE-M connectivity and is designed for size-constrained applications with high requirements for robustness and security, such as connected healthcare and asset trackers.

An eSIM embedded in a device offers important advantages to product developers and end users. The esim is stronger than a standard plastic simulation sim and cannot be stolen or removed, increasing the security of the device. By reducing the components needed to house and connect plastic SIM cards, they contribute to smaller devices, lower BOM, and simplify manufacturing. Finally, it simplifies the procurement process by providing modules, data plans and SIMs from one company.

The SARA-R500e greatly simplifies logistics for device manufacturers, as the eSIM is already integrated into the module. Customers must activate the connection through the u-blox Thingstream IoT service delivery platform and choose the data plan that best suits their needs. Especially customers who are too small to negotiate a dedicated data plan with a mobile network operator will benefit from competitive pricing," said Samuele Falcomer, Cellular Product Manager, u-blox Product Center. )Say.

This module is ideal for rugged IoT applications including smart meters, surveillance cameras and environmental sensors. Because the module's eSIM does not require manual insertion by end users, it enables product developers to design hermetically sealed devices that meet IP67 and IP68 requirements.
