Renesas has played a leading role in advancing RISC-V embedded processing solutions, recently launching a general-purpose RZ/Five MPU based on a 64-bit RISC-V CPU, and announcing the development of RISC-V in-vehicle solutions. Roger Wendelken, Senior Vice President, IoT and Infrastructure Business Division, Renesas Electronics, said: "As a leading embedded processing supplier, Renesas Electronics provides the solutions users need on a variety of platforms. This RISC-V-based ASSP has created an excellent combination of low cost, fast time-to-market and outstanding performance, which perfectly complements our current product portfolio and opens up access to new customers and emerging markets around the world."
Renesas' new R9A02G020 is a motor control ASSP built on Andes Technology Corp. RISC-V processing IP. Franklin Lin, CEO of Andes, said: "We are honored that Andes' entry-level RISC-V processor IP can provide computing power in the Renesas R9A02G020 MCU ASSP. We believe that the powerful low-power MCU ASSP that Renesas brings to the market will accelerate The application of RISC-V in a wide range of scenarios and encourages software developers to develop more creative and efficient applications for RISC-V, thereby helping this generation model to be widely adopted.”
The new RISC-V ASSP products released by Renesas are pre-programmed with professional application code developed by independent design houses (IDH) BFG Engineering and DigiPower (HK) Technology Ltd. Both BFG and DigiPower have extensive expertise and proven customer support capabilities in motor control. Among them, BFG is known for sensorless algorithms that shorten the startup time of customers' motors. DigiPower has been delivering cost-optimized, scalable motor drive solutions since 2008 and has designed specialized solutions for controlling refrigerator compressors, fans, pumps, and more. Both BFG and DigiPower will work with customers to finalize designs and assist in transitioning their solutions to production.
Lin Zhiqiang, general manager of DigiPower, said: "DigiPower has been working on power electronics and motor drive technology solutions in China since July 2008. We are pleased to announce that a variety of motor control solutions based on Renesas RISC-V ASSP have been launched. Using such a powerful hardware platform, DigiPower has designed specific solutions to control refrigerator compressors, fans, pumps, etc. in a cost-optimized and scalable manner. Our end customers will benefit from DigiPower's deep expertise in motor control algorithms and systems knowledge, and because our application software is pre-programmed in the ASSP by Renesas, we can significantly reduce customer time-to-market. This new approach, through the combination of Renesas and Digipower, opens up more opportunities for a bright future.” .
SEGGER Microcontroller GmbH is also involved in this work, and the complete SEGGER ecosystem including Embedded Studio and J-Link is a key element for creating and testing these motor control solutions.
