ROHM develops new LED drivers to help reduce power consumption

ROM has developed the 4ch/6ch LED Driver ic, BD83A04EFV-M, BD83A14EFV-M and BD82A26MUF-M, designed for medium to large vehicle infotainment and dashboard displays. Traditional LED drivers use a lot of power and are sensitive to flickering during PWM dimming. In contrast, the company has created LED drivers for LCD backlights that integrate proprietary low-power technology and seamless PWM dimming. This stops flashing when changing the display brightness from low to high.

These new products employ proprietary low-power technology to reduce losses in LED driver current control circuits. This results in an overall IC power consumption 20% lower than conventional products under typical conditions (80mA/ch LED circuit current, 12V power supply). This increases the low power consumption of medium and large car displays, where power consumption is problematic. At the same time, all models offer both DC and PWM dimming to meet a wide range of conditions.

Due to the company's unique seamless PWM dimming technology, no longer need to switch current feedback mode for low/high brightness changes, reduce the flicker caused by ordinary PWM dimming, improve system reliability. Typical application areas include dashboards, automotive infotainment, head-up displays, and electronic rearview mirrors (side/rear view mirrors).
