Renesas Electronics has released the RAA227063 Smart Door driver for brushless DC motor applications. The device is scalable and supports multiple MCUS, including a variety of the company's products. The new device is a programmable SPI interface that supports both motor rotor position sensor and sensorless applications.

It also provides programmable gate drive voltages that support N-channel MOSFEts commonly used in motor inverter designs, as well as GaN FETs that require high power density.

In addition to its unique flexibility, the device three-phase FET driver is highly integrated. It contains a 200mA LDO regulator that powers the MCU and further analog peripherals. Also included is a 500mA Buck-Boost converter that powers low-voltage logic directly from the battery pack with higher power efficiency (90%) compared to conventional LDOs(40%).

Three integrated current sensing amplifiers with programmable gains make it easy to program for multiple shunt configurations. This high level of integration simplifies design, reduces overall BOM costs, and reduces board space requirements by 30% or more.

Davin Lee, Vice president, Industrial Simulation, Renesas Iot and Infrastructure said:"Motor control customers around the world are asking us to provide flexible solutions that enable fast design cycles and high integration to reduce costs and space,"  The RAA227063 provides all of these capabilities and complements our industry-leading MCU portfolio."
