The MC34163 series is a monolithic power switch regulator that contains the main features required for a dc-to-dc converter. The series is designed specifically for boost, step-down and voltage inverter applications with a minimum number of external components. These devices include two high-gain voltage feedback comparators, temperature compensation references, control duty ratio oscillators, drivers with bootstrap capabilities for increased efficiency, and a high-current output switch.

Protection features include cyclic current limiting and internal thermal shutdown. Also included is a low voltage indicator output design interface with microprocessor - based systems. These devices are contained in a 16-pin dual plug-in thermal label plastic package to improve heat transfer
