Melexis Introduces Innovative Hall Switches for Liquid Level Detection Applications

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2022-06-27, Melexis Technologies NV

Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, announces the launch of a unique plug-and-play magnetic switch, the MLX92362, that improves assembly yield and reliability of liquid level measurement. The MLX92362 features an isolated floating output that can directly drive the load simply by powering up. This product supports CMOS testing, reflow soldering and non-contact operation to ensure hassle-free assembly. In addition, the family of chips can be synchronized over the same 3-wire interface.

The MLX92362 and MLX92361 are Melexis' patented float switch chips for continuous level detection based on Triaxis® technology. The modules of this series of programmable switches can be fine-tuned by customers to optimize them for specific applications. The MLX92361 of this family can be factory calibrated and the MLX92362 can be calibrated at the end of the customer's production line.

This new Hall switch device can directly replace the reed switch without changing the implementation or adding extra wiring. Compared to reed switches, Hall switches have up to 5 times smaller form factor. These solid-state components have no moving parts, resulting in higher reliability and longer operating life. Users do not need to worry about mechanical wear and tear, nor do they experience the high failure rate that reed switches often experience during module assembly.

Both the MLX92362 and MLX92361 feature fully isolated outputs that can directly drive loads and switch currents up to 100mA. The Melexis family of switches has a voltage range of 4.5 - 28V and is suitable for a wide variety of power rails. Multiple sensor chips can be connected in a single module and synchronized via built-in daisy-chain functionality.

Both the MLX92362 and MLX92361 are available in a 6-pin TSOT package with a surface mount process that simplifies assembly by reflow soldering. The switch operating temperature range is -40°C to 150°C.

"The MLX92362 and MLX92361 once again underline our leadership in magnetic sensor technology, which will replace mechanical or reed switches as the first choice for liquid level sensing applications. Our customers are implementing liquid level measurement or non-contact loads You will get a better operating experience when switching," said Dieter Verstreken, Global Marketing Manager for Melexis Position Sensor Chips. "We used silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology, which provides an output that is completely separated from the supply voltage. Advanced Triaxis magnetic sensing technology brings greater precision and reliability."
