Maxim Integrated Universal GPS Receiver

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2022-12-15, Maxim Integrated

The MAX2769 is the industry's first Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver with single-chip coverage of GPS, GLONASS and Galileo navigation satellite systems. This single conversion, low IF GNSS receiver is designed to provide high performance for a wide range of consumer applications, including mobile phones. It is packaged in a compact 5mm x 5mm, 28-pin thin QFN package with exposed blades. The part is also available in die form.

Typical Application Circuit

The MAX2769 is designed with Maxim's advanced low-power SiGe BiCMOS process technology to provide the highest performance and integration at a low cost. Integrated on the chip is a complete receiving chain consisting of a dual input LNA and mixer, followed by image rejection filters, PGA, VCO, fractional n frequency synthesizer, crystal oscillator and a multi-bit ADC. The total cascade noise factor of the receiver is as low as 1.4dB.

The MAX2769 completely eliminates the need for an external IF filter by implementing a single chip on a chip filter, requiring only a few external components to form a complete low-cost GPS receiver solution. The MAX2769 is the most flexible receiver on the market. The integrated delta-sigma fractional n frequency synthesizer allows IF frequencies to be programmed in the ±40Hz accuracy range, while using any reference or crystal frequencies available in the host system. The integrated ADC outputs 1 or 2 quantization bits for channel I and Q, or 3 quantization bits for channel I. The output data can be used on CMOS logic or limited differential logic levels.
