LT3092 is an innovative power IC from Linear Technology. This device provides a system designer with a two-terminal current source. Traditionally, current sources have been inaccurate or have to be designed by other components. The LT3092 200mA current source at both ends has a wide voltage range, high AC and DC impedance, good adjustability, lower temperature coefficient, and the fact that no capacitor is needed, thereby overcoming the problems associated with previous current sources. The device's two floating terminals make it easy to use. The device has an initial accuracy of 1% and a very low temperature coefficient. The output current can be programmed from 0.5mA to 200mA, and the current regulation from 1.5V to 40V is better than 10ppm / V. Unlike other analog integrated circuits, the LT3092 utilizes special design techniques to achieve high DC and AC impedance, ensuring stable operation without the need for a power supply bypass capacitor. Since the LT3092 does not require capacitors, it is well suited for "intrinsically safe" applications where the output may be shorted and sparks are not allowed. The company states that reverse power tolerance and thermal shutdown protect both the IC and the load.
