Linear Technology Corporation has introduced the LT8495, a new current mode, fixed frequency SEPIC / boost DC-DC converter with an internal 2A, 70V switch. The ultra-low quiescent current of only 9µA makes this device ideal for automotive systems that are always on. Its integrated power-on reset (POR) and watchdog timer can provide enhanced system reliability required by automotive and industrial applications.
The LT8495 starts from an input voltage range of 2.5V to 32V, and once operated, it can operate from an input range of 1V to 60V, making it suitable for applications with input power supplies ranging from single-cell lithium-ion batteries to automotive inputs. The LT8495 can be configured as a boost, SEPIC or flyback converter. Its switching frequency can be programmed from 250kHz to 1.5MHz through a single resistor, thereby minimizing the size of external components. The combination of the thermally enhanced TSSOP-20E package and slim external components ensures a very compact footprint while reducing the cost of the solution.
The LT8495's internal high-efficiency 2A switch operates at 83% efficiency when operating in a SEPIC configuration. The unique design using dual power pins (VIN and BIAS) enables the device to operate with the most efficient power supply, optimizing efficiency under various conditions. The LT8495 can operate with input power supply voltages up to 60V in SEPIC topologies and input power supply voltages up to 32V, and has ride-through protection in boost and flyback topologies. The reset and watchdog timeout periods can be adjusted independently using external capacitors. Other features include FMEA-resistant packaging, programmable soft-start and thermal shutdown protection.
The LT8495 is packaged in a thermally enhanced TSSOP-20. Industrial temperature versions from -40C to 125C are also available.
