Infineon introduces the new EiceDRIVER 1200 V half-bridge driver IC series

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2023-05-09, Infineon Technologies

Following the introduction of the EiceDRIVER™ 6ED223xS12T series of Silicon on Insulator (SOI) three-phase gate drivers, Infineon Technologies further expands its product portfolio with the EiceDRIVER 2ED132xS12x series. The half-bridge configuration of the drive IC family complements the existing 1200V SOI family, providing customers with more choice as well as design flexibility. The enhanced current output capability elevates the suitability of this portfolio to higher system power levels.

Infineon's SOI technology eliminates parasitic thyristor structures and improves negative transient voltage robustness and immunity on VS pins, which ensures tolerance to 100 V -VS transients over repeated 700 ns pulse cycles. In addition, these semiconductor devices are RoHS compliant and have electrostatic (ESD) protection and moisture resistance.

The series of half-bridge driver IC comes in four models with two different packaging technologies: The 2ED132xS12M in a DAC-16 300 mil package with + 2.3A / -4.6A current capability; The 2ED132xS12P comes in a DSO-20 300 mil package with + 2.3A / -2.3A current drive capability. The series of products have good switching performance, package to retain sufficient creepage distance and electrical clearance.

The family integrates low-resistance (30 Ω) bootup diodes, provides ultra-fast and accurate (±5% tolerance) overcurrent protection (OCP), and provides input, fail-out, and programmable fail-reset functions with separate logical (VSS) and fail-out (COM) pins. The 2ED132xS12M variant also has the added functionality of Active Miller Clamp (AMC) and Short Circuit Clamp (SCC).

These devices provide industry-leading negative-versus-negative-transient voltage immunity, breakdown protection, undervoltage locking protection, and fast overcurrent protection features. Not only do these features allow for fewer devices and a more robust design, but their compact shape is suitable for high-power applications such as commercial HVAC systems, heat pumps, servo drivers, industrial inverters, and pumps and fans with power outputs up to 10 kW.
