Renesas Electronics provides industry-leading functional safety solutions that meet the IEC 61508 standard for its RA and RX family of microcontrollers. The company claims to be the industry's first semiconductor vendor to offer these hardware-software solutions. Renesas now provides IEC 61508 SIL3 certified self-checking software for Arm Cortex-M23 and -M33 microcontrollers. It also announced the IEC61508 SIL3 certified ProISAFe RX microcontroller application software.

Functional safety is a key consideration in many industrial automation devices and is becoming increasingly important in many other applications, including service robotics, healthcare, and building automation. Its experts help customers get to market faster by providing end-to-end support for a wide range of 32-bit MCU families from concept to commercialization.

Roger Wendelken, senior vice president, Internet of Things and Infrastructure, Renesas said:"Companies of all sizes and regions are looking for help in meeting functional security requirements,"  "We are proud to lead the industry in providing certified software solutions that complement our MCU and help our customers get to market faster."

Masataka Nakao, general manager for business process, industrial services and cyber security function security at TUV Rheinland Japan said:"The diagnostic software added to renesas's solution is a functional safety certification issued by TUV Rheinland, based on arm cores that are increasingly being adopted in industrial automation."  "It takes time to validate diagnostic software, and we believe that renesas certified diagnostic software can improve the efficiency of customers' functional safety product development, which will help expand the functional safety market."
