Diodes Corporation announced a new addition to its family of automotive-qualified DC-DC converters. The AP64060Q is a 600mA synchronous buck converter device with an input voltage range of 4.5V to 40V. It integrates a 600mΩ high-side power MOSFET and a 300mΩ low-side power MOSFET to provide high-efficiency step-down conversion (90% efficiency) with minimal PCB board space. The AP64060Q is specifically designed for use in automotive powertrain, infotainment and instrumentation assemblies, as well as for exterior lighting in vehicles.

The AP64060Q has a very low quiescent current (IQ), typically only 90µA, for improved light load efficiency. Since the device supports a fast switching frequency (2MHz), smaller companion inductors and capacitors can be selected. Its synchronous rectification does not require external Schottky diodes, and the additional use of peak current mode control and built-in loop compensation network further reduces the overall number of components used.

The AP64060Q uses a proprietary gate driver that mitigates ringing when switching nodes without affecting the MOSFET turn-on and turn-off times. This in turn mitigates high-frequency radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise caused by MOSFET switching. The operating ambient temperature range for the AP64060Q is -40°C to +125°C. Protection features include overvoltage protection (OVP), undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and thermal shutdown. The device is available in a compact TSOT26 package. It is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 compliant, supports PPAP documents, and is manufactured in an IATF 16949 certified production facility.
