Diodes Incorporated has introduced a single-channel load switch designed to operate in the 4.5V to 12V range with near-zero quiescent supply current, making it suitable for battery-powered netbooks, tablets, and e-readers.
The AP22850 can handle up to 8A load current and power-up / power-down sequencing with adjustable startup and discharge rates. It is offered in a space-saving, thermally efficient 2mm x 2mm x 0.8mm W-DFN2020-8 package, thereby maximizing the use of available board space.
The growing portable computing market continues to require more integrated and powerful load switches. These are required for distributed power control and low-voltage differential signaling, where switches rated for continuous output current operation with power good indication and adjustable discharge are key. These features and performance are provided at low cost by the AP22850, which is based on a typical RDS (ON) P-channel MOSFET as low as 20mohm. The device can handle inputs up to 12V, with a maximum output current of 8A, but a static (no-load) current of only 1.2nA.
The AP22850 does not require an external gate pull-up resistor and has integrated circuitry to suppress fast input transients from coupling to the output. These features help reduce BOM costs and save board area.
