Flex Power Modules has released the BMR350 x250/531, an enhanced version of the BMR350 non-isolated quarter-brick DC-DC bus converter. The continuous power rating has been increased from 860W to 1300W, and the peak power capability is 1700W.
The product maintains the same dimensions of 58.4mm x 36.8mm, with a height of only 12mm, and the same input range of 40-60VDC (80V/ 100ms). The output is rated at 12.12VDC and is now rated at 108A continuous (170A peak), available from 8V to 13.2V. An additional bottom side cooling plate allows for improved ratings and doubles the output connector pins.
Like the original device, the product is excellent as an intermediate bus converter for powering processors and ASics with peak power requirements. The product offers an innovative transformer-coupled, non-isolated topology that reduces the number of components and current stresses and provides a 97.7% efficiency level at 54V inputs. Derating the product is achieved through innovative 3D thermal data graphs to determine the available output power for a given real-world pin and baseplate temperature. This allows maximum power to be extracted without the pressure of the converter. For higher power levels, active current sharing is provided between parallel modules. When used with recommended external filters, the device complies with EMI standard EN 55032/FCC Part 15J 'Class B'.
Fully protected against output overvoltage, overcurrent and module overtemperature, the PMBus interface provides remote control and monitoring, supported by the "Flex Power Designer" software tool. One of its features is the inclusion of an "event data logger" that can be queried to analyze any specific stress or failure condition even after the converter has been shut down. The terminals come through through-hole pins and are ideal for paste pin reflow, wave or hand soldering.
Olle Hellgren, Flex Power Module Product Management and Marketing Director, commented: "We have almost doubled the power level in the same size BMR350 product for a wider range of bus converter applications. With its innovative cost saving technology, the product now represents a better dollar/watt value."
