Cypress - New SLC NAND flash memory family reduces system costs and improves security

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2015-12-14, Cypress Semiconductor Corp
Cypress Semiconductor Corporation introduced a single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory family for high-security applications. In general, designers of high-security applications have been using block-protected NOR flash memory for boot code storage and commercial SLC NAND flash memory for system firmware and application storage. The new Cypress SecureNAND device family reduces system costs and increases system security by providing a single non-volatile memory with integrated block protection for set-top boxes, point-of-sale systems, wearables, and other high-security applications. The Cypress SecureNAND family includes 1Gb, 2Gb, and 4Gb devices, all of which can be configured with nonvolatile block protection to configure the entire device to store protected boot code, system firmware, and applications. These products provide 100,000 program / erase cycles to ensure a system life of more than five years. These devices operate from 2.7V to 3.6V and support industrial temperature ranges from -40C to + 85C. Touhidur Raza, director of Cypress's NAND flash product family, said: "End users are increasingly concerned about the security of the products they purchase, and manufacturers are responding by seeking SLC NAND flash with enhanced security." The SecureNAND family meets this market demand while reducing system costs, and Cypress has supported it as a mature high-quality SLC NAND supplier. " The company said that 1Gb S34SL01G2, 2Gb S34SL02G2 and 4Gb S34SL04G2 SecureNAND devices are sampling now and are expected to go into production in the fourth quarter of 2015.
