Cypress announced a complete USB-C to local HDMI connection solution that requires no adapters or converters. It is considered the first in the world. This solution is based on the Cypress EZ-PD USB-C controller, allowing next-generation laptops, smartphones, tablets, digital cameras and other HDMI-enabled signal sources with a USB-C connector to connect directly to HDMI-capable displays, including HD and 4K TVs, use only a simple USB-C to HDMI cable. EZ-PD controllers now support USB Type-C HDMI standby mode, USB Type-C standard support for audio, video and data protocols, and USB PD for fast charging. All HD and 4K TVs include an HDMI connection, but adapters or converters are required to connect non-HDMI-enabled source devices. These adapters or converters cannot enable all native HDMI functions. Cypress' Wired Connectivity Business Unit. "HDMI Alt mode for USB-C will result in more smartphones, tablets and laptops adopting HDMI audio and video technology through USB-C connectors, which in turn will help increase the number of 6 billion HDMI devices, "said Rob Tobias, president of HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. "Cypress is quickly bringing its HDMI Alt Mode solution to market, enabling developers to implement this user-friendly feature for consumers, and we are very happy."
