Bourns Introduces High Current PTVS Diodes Capable of Handling 20 kA Inrush Current and Low Clamping Voltage

Date de Parution: 2022-09-28, Bourns Inc.

Bourns, Inc. has introduced a bidirectional power transient voltage suppressor (PTVS) diode designed for high power DC line protection applications. The new model PTVS20-015C-TH is capable of handling 20 kA current surges at a low voltage of 15 V, making it an ideal and effective electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection solution for applications requiring high power DC bus protection.

Bourns model PTVS20-015C-TH PTVS diode meets IEC 61000-4-2 level 4 ESD protection requirements. It also has a low clamping voltage at peak pulse current, helping to meet the current surge requirements of IEC 61000-4-5 8/20 μs lightning protection.

To support high currents such as 60 kA in next-generation applications, designers often must connect many devices with low current handling capabilities in parallel. With a single device capable of handling 20 kA, a smaller number of devices can now be paralleled to achieve the same desired level of protection. This reduces the total BOM count and helps save valuable space on the PCB. and RoHS compliant and halogen free.
