ADI has introduced the AD4110-1 AFE with an integrated 24-bit ADC for industrial process control systems. The device is a universal input AFE with an integrated ADC, enabling customers to create "platform" input modules that can be configured for multiple functions. This can save a lot of research and development costs, shorten time to market, and require fewer design resources.
The device's high-voltage input can be configured via software as a current or voltage signal, allowing direct connection to all standard industrial analog signal sources. One reference design replaces many reference designs, reducing module size and lowering cost of ownership. Software-configurable I / O is a key factor in implementing Industry 4.0.
