Analog Devices - Battery management PMIC combines several monitoring functions

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2020-02-20, Analog Devices Inc.
ADI's ADP5360 battery management PMIC combines multiple functions to monitor the output voltage for advanced battery management. The device features a high-performance linear charger for a single lithium-ion / lithium polymer battery and a programmable ultra-low quiescent current fuel gauge. It also integrates battery protection circuits, an ultra-low static buck, a buck-boost switching regulator, and a monitoring circuit. The charger can work up to 6.8V to prevent USB bus spikes by disconnecting or connecting scenes. The device has an internal isolation FET between the linear charger output and the battery node. When the device is in a battery overcharge and overdischarge fault condition, the full battery protection option is activated. The device fuel gauge uses a voltage-based algorithm and an adaptive filter limiting solution. The fuel gauge reports the real-time battery SOC of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with ultra-low quiescent current. The device's buck regulator operates in FPWM mode with a switching frequency of 1MHz. In hysteresis mode, the regulator provides excellent efficiency at low output power. The buck-boost regulator operates only in hysteresis mode and outputs a voltage that is less than or greater than the battery voltage. The monitoring circuit monitors the output voltage of the regulator and provides a power-on reset signal to the system. The watchdog timer and external buttons reset the microprocessor. The I2C-compatible interface allows programming of all battery charging parameters, protection thresholds, step-down output voltage and status bit readback. What is the operating temperature range of the device? 40C to + 85C junction temperature range and is available in a 32-ball, 2.56mm x 2.56mm WLCSP package. Typical applications include rechargeable lithium-ion / lithium polymer battery-powered devices, portable consumer devices, portable medical devices, and wearable devices.
