TRINAMIC Motion Control GmbH & Co. KG, now part of Maxim Integrated Products, has released the fully Integrated TMC6140-LA three-phase MOSFET gate driver, The device combines all three bottom shunt amplifiers to provide a complete motor drive solution with a 30% increase in power efficiency compared to similar solutions while simplifying the design by reducing the number of components in half. Simplifies design and maximizes battery life of brushless DC motor drivers.

The three-phase gate driver is equipped with pins to add charge pumps that statically stabilize coil currents up to 100A in the external MOSFET gate voltage of the three-phase motor. Available in A 36-pin QFN package, the gate driver is A flexible solution that provides 0.5A or 1A gate driver current for 5V to 30V DC battery-powered applications, such as power tools with voltages that can drop below 10V. Integrated current detection and diagnostics simplify design while increasing functional safety. The device is optimized for performance over a wide voltage range and is ideal for servo motors, brushless motors and permanent magnet synchronous motors.

Michael Randt, founder of Trinamic Motion Control, said: "Integrated current detection and diagnostics are key to achieving functional safety without the need to add complex circuits or additional components to any system design." "This allows engineers to increase efficiency by 30 percent with minimal effort."
