3D based position sensor with redundancy for safety-critical applications

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2022-01-25, TDK Corporation

TDK has expanded its Micronas Right-angle Hall effect sensor family with HAR 3927. The product uses proprietary 3D HAL pixel cell technology to meet the requirements of ISO 26262 compatible development. According to SAE J2716 Rev.4, the new sensor is equipped with proportional analog output and digital SENT interfaces.

Linear motion measurement for dual clutch transmission, engine stroke sensor, gear selector and throttle pedal rotation position measurement, and electronic throttle control. The device provides a fully redundant sensor solution for safety-critical automotive applications.

Each sensor consists of two stacked tube cores that operate independently. The tube core has minimal displacement and is penetrated by the same field line. The sensor uses much smaller magnets than two other side-by-side solutions. Its magnetic field ranges from 20mT to 130mT, with accuracy down to 5mT.

Redundant single-package solutions reduce system costs while improving system reliability due to smaller PCBS and fewer solder joints. The device is also available in a small 8-pin SOIC8 package.

The sensor offers two different output formats and a linear block output signal up to 33 set points (17 variable or 33 fixed set points). Thanks to proprietary 3D HAL pixel cell technology, customers can measure magnetic field components, allowing 360-degree linear and rotational position measurements as well as open and off-axis measurements. By programming the non-volatile memory, the main characteristics of gain and bias, reference position, etc. can be adjusted into the magnetic circuit.

The device's multiple configuration options increase customer flexibility in the development process and allow a single sensor to be applied to multiple applications, thereby reducing cost and recertification efforts.
