The KS8721CL is a 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 100BASEFX physical layer transceiver that provides MII/RMII interfaces for Macs and switches. With a unique mixed-signal design that extends signal distance while reducing power consumption, the KS8721CL represents Micrel's fourth-generation single-port Fast Ethernet PHY.

The KS8721CL includes 10BASE-T Physical media attachment (PMA), physical media Dependent (PMD), and physical coding sublayer (PCS) capabilities. It also has an on-chip 10BASE-T output filter. This eliminates the need for an external filter and allows a set of line magnetics to be used to meet the requirements of 100BASE-TX and 10BASE-T.

The KS8721CL is automatically configured for 100Mbps or 10Mbps and full-duplex or half-duplex operation using an auto-negotiation algorithm on chip. It is the ideal physical layer transceiver for 100BASE-TX/10BASE-T applications.Micrel's integrated built-in voltage regulator technology allows users to save on BOM costs for existing and future designs using the new KS8721CL single-power, single-port, 10/100 Ethernet PHY
